Power chairs have shown to be an extremely helpful way to maintain or even gain independence. Power chairs often have features that allow individuals to shift into different positions throughout their day while only having to make minimal movements (fingertips). We will be looking closer at the different types of power chairs, as well as some common features that may be found on a power chair.
When deciding on a powerchair (power wheelchair, electric wheelchair, etc., steered by joystick or other electronic components) or a mobility scooter (three or four-wheel device with handlebars for steering), it's important to weigh the pros and cons of each type of powered mobility device.
You may not have thought in depth about the benefits and drawbacks of powered mobility, but there are several quality-of-life benefits you may not have considered and situations where powered mobility may benefit even those who we may not consider to have severe enough disabilities to require a powerchair or scooter.
