One Roof, One Team: Why We're Bringing Everything Together

For the last several months, a small group of us has been quietly working on something we're finally ready to talk about.

Accessibility Medical Equipment is consolidating our locations. Three buildings are becoming one.

If you've ever called us looking for a power wheelchair and heard "let me check with our other location," you already know why we're doing this. Our team has been spread across the metro for years, and while our people have always found a way to make it work, the layout was never doing our customers any favors. Inventory lived in one place. Techs lived in another. The person who could answer your question was sometimes a twenty minute drive from the chair you were asking about.

We decided that wasn't good enough.

What we've been working on

This has not been a quick project. We've spent months planning the space, walking the floor, arguing about where things should go, and rethinking how equipment moves from the moment it comes in the door to the moment it goes home with someone who needs it.

We looked at every step. How a donated wheelchair gets received. How it gets inspected, cleaned, repaired, and tested. How it gets photographed and listed. How a customer finds it, asks about it, and takes it home. Every one of those steps used to cross a parking lot or a highway. Soon they'll all happen in the same building, often in the same room.

That's the whole idea. Less handoff. Less waiting. Less "let me find out and call you back."

What this means if you shop with us in person

You'll walk into one place and find everything.

Right now, if you come in looking for a lift and a manual chair, there's a real chance we have one and not the other on hand. After the move, our showroom floor holds the full picture. You can see the equipment, sit in it, compare two or three options side by side, and talk to someone who actually knows what came through the shop last week.

Our repair techs will be in the same building as our sales floor. That matters more than it sounds like it does. If you have a question about whether a chair will hold up, or whether a part can be swapped, the person with the answer is right there. Not on a callback list.

Families and caregivers should notice the difference immediately. Fewer trips. Fewer phone trees. One address to remember.

What this means if you order from us online

We sell refurbished mobility equipment to people all over the country, and that side of our business has grown fast. It's also the side that suffers most from split locations.

When the equipment, the photo setup, the listing team, and the shipping station are all in the same place, listings go up faster and they go up better. We're building a dedicated photo and video space in the new location, which means clearer pictures, real detail shots, and honest video of equipment actually working. If you've ever bought a used power chair online and squinted at four blurry photos trying to figure out what you were getting, you understand why we care about this.

Orders will ship faster too, because nobody has to drive across town to pull an item off a shelf.

Why a nonprofit does this

We're not consolidating to cut corners. We're doing it because every dollar we don't spend maintaining three separate buildings is a dollar that goes back into equipment, repairs, and getting mobility gear into the hands of people who need it and can't always pay full price for it.

That's the mission. It always has been. This move just gets us more of it per dollar.

What happens next

We'll share more as we get closer, including the details on our new home and when the doors open. In the meantime, nothing changes. We're still answering the phone, still filling orders, still shipping equipment, and still here for anyone in the Kansas City area who needs a hand.

If you've been a customer, a donor, a referral partner, or a family who found us on a hard day, thank you. You're the reason this was worth doing.

More soon.
